Breskens and the North Sea

Image
41 miles from the campsite and I've arrived at the North Sea. Waiting now for the ferry to take me over the Schelde delta to Vlissingen. Just missed a ferry so having to wait an hour.  Thinking I'll start looking for a campsite on the coast on the other site rather than pushing on. It's hot!

Closing in on Breskens

Apparently I'm in the Netherlands. Sneaked over the border somewhere and didn't notice. Photo is of a British war memorial. L ong straight cycling now much if it along the top of dykes.

Lunch stop

Could it get much flatter!

Gent Canal

Image
Crossing the mighty Terneuzin Gent canal. Nearly at the Netherlands border. Route so far has been great, mainly single lane roads and cycle paths - except for the few times Garmin thought I was a mountain bike. Let's say I've tasted the cobbled lanes and dirt tracks of Flanders.

Day 2 start

That's me set off. It is a lovely day - sunny and calm. Perfect. Photo shows the kind of countryside I'm going through.

Camping Spot

Image
Camping spot for the night  - near Zele, east of Ghent . It is in a campsite (Groenpark) but I'm in an area on my own beside a lake. 12 euro for the pleasure but the site overall is quite busy and well maintained. It is roasting - temperature hit 24 degrees on the way here and it is still warm. I'm sitting outside a bar at the moment having a beer or two to rehydrate and a bite to eat.  I'm continuing north tomorrow morning, crossing the Dutch border and heading for Breskins where I'll meet the North sea - and where I have to take a ferry to Vlissigen  to start the North Sea route proper.
